I am a 16 year old girl...I was wondering if you could help me. I am not overweight at all but would love a nice flat tummy...I also have bad acne.
I was wondering if you could please send me a vegetarian diet that will help my tummy and skin...if possible I mean like a Monday to Friday schedule.
I also go to school and don't get a lot of time to make lunch so is there any simple way like which fruit muffins etc. do you recomend .... Please - K. L.
Dear K. L.,
I'm sorry, but I'm not a dietition or nutritionist and that's really what you need to give you a daily vegetarian diet for acne. I also know almost nothing about the causes, prevention and treatments for acne. From what I've read about it, acne seems to be a complex skin disease.
I did a little research for you, and saw a variety of sites about acne treatment.
This seemed like a good one to me: Acne Treatments, Information and Solutions
And this one: the scientific link between diet and acne
And this article from a doctor who had acne and treated it extensively with diet and other approaches.
From studying Ayurveda, I've seen how diet can have a profound effect on your health. However, it seems that acne can be triggered in so many different ways besides diet - stress, hormones, hygiene, lifestyle, environment - that I can see how diet alone might not be the key to improvement. Have you consulted a doctor, naturopath or dietition about acne treatment?
Exercise will help you get a flat tummy - I haven't found anything else that does the trick in 64 years! Walking is supposed to be especially effective in reducing belly fat, although it doesn't really tone the stomach muscles. Fresh air and exercise may also have a good effect on your skin.
All the best, Judith Kingsbury, Savvy Vegetarian
