Apple Dessert Recipe: Apple Crumble Tarts

Delicious Twist On Dutch Apple Pie, Loved By Apple Pie Fans!

Apple Crumble Tarts

If you love Dutch apple pie, you'll love these delicious apple crumble tarts, made with fresh apples, and homemade vegan pie crust.

The advantages of apple tarts over apple pie: Smaller: if you can stop at one, you're better off. Easier: you can pick up and eat them with your fingers. More elegant: strictly a subjective judgement.

Besides an oven, you'll need:

  • A muffin tin
  • A veggie peeler, and a sharp paring knife
  • A heavy wooden or marble rolling pin, something like this
  • A sturdy pastry blender with flat blades, not wires. Here's a good example. Here's another one. You can use two knives, or a fork, but it's laborious
  • A couple of large bowls

Apple Tart Ingredients:

Savvy Vegetarian Facebook Page
  1. 1 recipe vegan pie crust
  2. 6 med-large apples
  3. 1/2 cup sugar
  4. Crumb Topping:
  5. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  6. 1/3 cup brown sugar
  7. 1 tsp cinnamon
  8. 1/3 cup melted vegan margarine

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Roll out pie crust to 1/8 inch thickness, and cut into twelve 3 1/2 inch rounds
  3. Place rounds into muffin tins
  4. Peel, quarter, and core apples
  5. Cut each quarter in half lengthwise and slice each half into 1/4 inch thick pieces
  6. Quinoa Recipe Ebook
  7. Mix the apple pieces with the sugar and fill each tart with the apples
  8. Mix all topping ingredients together with your fingers to form a crumbly mixture
  9. Sprinkle topping over apples
  10. Bake for about 35 minutes until the apples are bubbling and the crust and topping are golden
  11. Cool the tarts in the pan for at least 1/2 hour before (carefully) removing from tins

Cooking Tips:

We used veggie spread in the crust and topping instead of butter - tastier and healthier, in our humble opinion.

Apple tarts are heavenly solo, but try them with Whipped Cashew Cream, or Coconut Whipped Cream for an over-the-top dessert experience.
