Easy Apple Recipe: Homemade Applesauce

Applesauce: Simple Comfort Food, Breakfast or Snack, Cake or Muffins

Applesauce

Apple Sauce is an easy healthy comfort food, simple to make, delicious by itself as a breakfast or snack, or added to applesauce cake. Indians eat it as Apple Raisin Chutney

Use organic apples if possible, for the best taste, and to avoid eating lots of pesticides and herbicides. The best time to make applesauce is in the fall, when you can buy organic apples by the bushel at the farmer's market for a reasonable price. Then it's economical to make large quantities of applesauce.

It's always wise to make lots of applesauce anyway, and hide it from your family and friends, because it's addictive. Be warned that applesauce has a strong tendency to disappear before you can put any into muffins or cakes.

Make applesauce unsweetened if you like, or substitute pears for apples. Pear sauce is a whole 'nother taste sensation!
